Worship
Altar Guild
The members of the Altar Guild are trained in preparing our sanctuary for worship services. They are knowledgeable about Episcopal liturgies, the seasons of the Episcopal Church, and Feast Days. They care for the altar, its furnishings, and linens.
Morning Prayer
All are welcome to join our online morning prayer services Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m. Please contact Mo. Julie if you would like to be trained as a morning prayer leader.
Music
The music program at St. Andrew’s and Christ Episcopal is a diverse blend of the historic Episcopal hymnody mixed with contemporary worship music. With an ensemble of authentic, acoustic musicians and a bevy of Church members, most Sundays you’ll hear and sing along with vocalists, while enjoying the melodic sounds of violin, piano and guitar. Throughout the year we are joined by fellow musicians demonstrating their talents in cello, organ, oboe, flute, harp, and a brass ensemble. Our music program participates in weekly services of worship, quarterly services of Taize, as well as Holy Week Services.
If you have interest in learning more about the choir, or would like to join us in instrumental accompaniment, please contact Kevin Wood, our Music Director at seekevsing@gmail.com.
Lay Readers
Our lay readers come up to the podium to read the Old and New Testament readings, Psalm, and Prayers of the People each Sunday. If you would like to be a lay reader during our Sunday worship service, please contact us and we will arrange a short training session.
Ushers
Ushers greet worshippers as they arrive on Sunday mornings, welcoming them, handing out the service bulletins, counting the attendees, and assisting with the collection plate.
Worship in Japanese
Brother Ambrose leads a worship service online in the Japanese language every Sunday at 1:00 p.m. with worshippers from across the United States. You can join here.
Worship in Korean
The True Love Church meets on Sundays and every weekday morning at St. Andrew’s or via Zoom.
Youth Orchestra
Our youth orchestra of middle and high school children meets on the Second Sunday of the month at Christ Episcopal Church to practice.
Educational
Bible Study
All are welcome to join our Bible Study group on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. or 6 p.m. We study passages of scripture and have group discussions about the interpretation of the passage and how to apply our learnings personally.
Highlands Latin School
This K-12 school based on the classical arts meets at St. Andrew’s on Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sunday School
Our Sunday School for children ages 3 to 12 meets on Sundays just before 9 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church. Our leaders follow The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, which is rooted in Sacred Scripture, the Liturgy, and the educational philosophy of Maria Montessori. It is a reflective-based program of religious formation that helps a child to further develop their relationship with God in a developmentally appropriate way. We are looking to train more leaders to work with our children.
Fellowship
Artisans
The Artisans group meets every other Tuesday at a parishioner’s home to work on embroidery projects to embellish the aesthetics of our church. People of all skill levels are welcome to join.
Coffee Hour
This ministry of hospitality involves providing snacks, such as cookies, fruit, and veggies, for parishioners as they socialize and get to know each other better after our Sunday worship service. Volunteers set up before the service, make the coffee, and clean up afterwards on a regular or one-off basis.
Special Events
We hold special events throughout the year including an annual fundraiser, a Live Nativity at Christmas, and a family Easter Celebration. Volunteers assist with planning and implementation of these events.
Outreach
Alcoholics Anonymous
Three different AA groups meet at Christ Episcopal Church on Monday and Thursday evenings.
Beach Ministry
We welcome your ideas for our new beach ministry, scheduled to start at Pentecost 2022! Please contact Mo. Julie if you would like to be part of the committee organizing this.
Honduras Fund
We collect funds throughout the year to send to students in Honduras for them to continue their education past elementary school.
Loaves and Fishes
We offer a free hot meal to people in need at St. Andrew’s at 11 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. We also contribute to the Shared Bread program at Riviera United Methodist Church and maintain this list of local venues that offer free meals to the hungry.
Stewardship
Stewardship is about being grateful, responsible stewards of the gifts we receive from God. Our Stewardship team reaches out to all parishioners to encourage them to give of their time, talent, and treasure to the church ministries. It’s about reaching out to build relationships from a perspective of God’s abundance.
